Reversible Nurtropenia in Children Following Treatment of Acute Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura
Kim Ji-Yoon

Abstract
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura is a bleeding disorder characterized by a low platelet count and abrupt onset of petechiae and purpura in a previously healthy child. Pediatric ITP is a self-limiting condition, resolved within 6 months. During the periods of thrombocytopenia, the risk of serious bleeding, even life-threatening, can be increasing and impulse for treating ITP in children. Treatment, such as IVIG or steroids, results in more rapid rise in platelet count, but also may cause significant adverse reactions. The incidence of adverse reactions following the administration of IVIG is in the range of 1 ~ 15% and most are considered to be mild, and self-limited, but can be serious complications, rarely. Two children with ITP treated with IVIG developed neutropenia after 1 to 2 days following therapy, which resolved 5 or 7 months after completion of the therapy. This is the report of the reversible neutropenia after IVIG treatment of ITP, with the literature review.
